About NonprofitNext

People first AI built by nonprofit peers for nonprofit leaders.

Our Story

Why NonprofitNext?

I’ve spent over 25 years working in the nonprofit sector. I started as a volunteer, got hired, and worked on the front lines of service delivery for several years before eventually leading organizations at the executive level. Across all of those experiences, one thing stayed constant: the people doing this work genuinely care. They didn’t choose it for the salary. They chose it for the mission.

And yet, too often, I watched talented, committed people get buried under administrative tasks that pulled them away from the very work they came to do.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: many nonprofits are running on empty. Not because of a lack of heart or talent, but because of systems, workflows, and tools that haven’t kept pace with the demands of the work. Worse yet, technology often gets implemented by people outside the sector who never took the time to learn about nonprofit culture, values, or the realities of daily operations. Staff spend hours on tasks that could be automated. Leaders often make decisions without the right data. And technology investments are never fully used because no one received proper training.

The result is burnout, inefficiency, and mission drift.

That’s what led me to co-found NonprofitNext. NonprofitNext operates as a division of 501See Consulting Group, LLC.

How We’re Different

01. Our Philosophy

Ethical AI for the Nonprofit Sector

AI and automation offer a genuine opportunity for the nonprofit sector, but only if done right. Technology must be implemented ethically, integrated thoughtfully, and supported with real training. That’s what we call People First AI.

People First AI means implementing technology in a way that values and supports your staff, while keeping the people you serve at the center of every decision. It protects people’s time, reduces burnout, and makes space for the human connections that no algorithm can replicate.

Done right, AI is not a threat to nonprofit culture. It is a tool that strengthens it.

02. Our Approach

How We Work

Based in Columbia, South Carolina, we serve nonprofits nationwide through virtual engagements. Larry brings over 25 years in nonprofit leadership, and together our team brings more than 30 years of combined nonprofit experience to every engagement, which means we understand the constant pressure to deliver results with limited resources.

Rather than arriving with predetermined solutions, we start by listening. We take time to understand your organization’s mission, workplace culture, current technology, and the specific challenges your team faces every day. From there, we work alongside your leadership team to build a thoughtful, practical strategy for where and how AI and automation can bring real, meaningful improvement to your operations. See our nonprofit AI consulting services.

Once a strategy is in place, we build solutions designed for your organization and provide hands-on training so your team feels confident and capable, not left behind. Our goal is not just to introduce new tools, but to make sure your staff understand them, trust them, and can use them effectively. See examples of what we’ve built for organizations like yours.

03. Our Background

Who We Are

NonprofitNext was founded by experienced nonprofit peers. We bring together executive leadership, financial and operational expertise, and a shared commitment to the sector. We’ve managed million-dollar budgets, led organizations through periods of growth and crisis, and worked through the compliance, HR, and funding pressures you face every day.

We’re not outside consultants who learned about nonprofits from a sales training. We are nonprofit people who happen to know a great deal about AI.
